The north roundabout at Elephant & Castle is a bad one for cyclists and pedestrians - getting from one side to the other on foot involves three separate pedestrian crossings (and there aren't crossings on all the roads), or a maze-like subway very poorly signposted. It's not hard to come back above ground in completely the wrong place. I don't feel safe in this subway, and would not use it at night. As a cyclist, I know there is a cycle route that bypasses the two main E&C junctions, but the route is not well signposted all the way, and adds a fair amount of time to the journey. Recently, part of the E&C bypass for cyclists (that crosses the New Kent Road) has been disrupted with the removal of a pedestrian crossing, and replacing it with a crossing further down the road, past the old E&C cycling route. There is now a sign that says 'E&C bypass ends here', and cyclists either have to navigate the north roundabout (which in my opinion is dangerous, with lots of lorries and buses) or cycle along a stretch of pavement to get back to the bypass route. I would like to see this roundabout reworked, much like the south roundabout, which is much better than it was, and has street-level pedestrian crossings with traffic lights across each road. There are also good advance stop lanes for cyclists at the lights on the south roundabout.
