Druid Cycles 'United to Assist'

Bankside diversion sign.

Thames-side promenade at City Hall. Potentially ideal for cycling, but the owners, More London, are so anti-cycling they won't even allow pedal-powered generators for events at The Scoop.

How to ruin a nice wide cycle lane...

Diversion for cyclists around roadworks south of London Bridge

Evans Cycles, by London Bridge.

Cycle Parking in Nunhead

Cycle bypasses at a road closure - hard to tell what the point is, or when they'd be used.

Cut-through, London cycle route 22, Peckham Rye

Road narrowing on London cycle route 23, Camberwell Grove - there's now alternate car traffic to the road, while the cycle route is always open, though cyclists still have to stop at the red light, of course.

Chains have been added to the posts that separate the bike racks from the nearest motor vehicle parking space. (See also #16540, #16559, #16541.) I arrived as the owners of the two bikes shown in the background were struggling to secure th ... [more]

This is the cycle parking outside Halfords (which has a Bike Hut) that the landlord of the site suggested would suffice for customers of B&Q despite that store being at the other end of the park). See also #16539, #16540, #16541 and #17087 ... [more]

This image shows how far the bike racks at B & Q are from the entrance to the store. (Compare this scenario with that in Cambridge #16560.) They are 'beyond' the entrance in the sense that to cycle to them you would need to go through the c ... [more]

I was pleased to see that spaces between the uprights in the long-campaigned for racks at B&Q (see also #16541, #16539, #16559 and #17087) are quite far apart. I was able to get into the space and load up my bike. It would be tighter if the ... [more]

Since 19 June 2006 I've been lobbying B & Q and the managing agents of the site to get cycle parking put in outside B&Q. There's a clear need - there was always at least one other bike, usually several, attached to the railings surrounding ... [more]

Red Nose Day in Southwark

Lots of bikes on the other side of the road against the railings due to lack of good cycle parking at this transport interchange.

Canal through Rotherhithe with cycle route adjacent.

Beatson Walk, Rotherhithe. Nice cycle ride.

Cycle-friendly streets.

Accessible cycle crossing - no barriers.

Rubbish cycle parking. Theoretically secure but probably not in practice, and not very practical. Most people will just use the railings instead.

Signing for walkers which sensibly shows the time to the destination rather than the distance.

Nelson Walk, Rotherhithe - nice cycle route in this area.

St Mary's Churchyard, which re-opened in May 2008, is the first part of the regeneration of the Elephant and Castle. An underused green space was landscaped, a children's playground was put in and three cycle racks were installed (see #140 ... [more]

Cycle hoop. Anthony is a trainee architect who is also a cyclist. And a cyclist who has had a bike stolen by thieves who lifted it off the top of the pole he had 'secured' it to. Anthony has subsequently designed the Cyclehoop http://ww ... [more]

Cyclehoops are designed to be installed on street furniture. Designer Anthony Lau says this reduces street clutter by using existing structures rather than adding more and makes installing them fast - Anthony says he can put in 20 in a day. ... [more]

Signing of a cycle contraflow on a one way street at Upper Ground

Barriers have appeared within the last year to block what should be a useful cycle route parallel to Newington Butts and Kennington Park Road, especially as a car-free housing development is to be built just south of here.

Southwark Cyclists and Lambeth Cyclists have arranged with developers Firstbase to place campaign posters on hoardings by Churchyard Row, part of the Elephant and Castle cycle bypass (linking Southwark and Lambeth boroughs).

'Please cycle responsibly' in St Mary's Churchyard, Elephant and Castle

St Mary's Churchyard Park, Elephant and Castle - badly designed and installed cycle stands - a bike at one stand blocks the adjacent one. [now replaced - see #15319] At rear, Sheffield stands at the leisure centre not used because they're t ... [more]

Responsible cycling is permited in the excellent new St Mary's Churchyard park, part of the Elephant & Castle regeneration - so why not install a dropped kerb?

Is this really meant to be cycle parking ?? - perhaps not. Aldi, Old Kent Road, London

Southwark Park

Responsible cycling allowed in (just about) all Southwark parks.

Access to Southwark Park from Mayflower Street

Entry to Southwark Park from Paradise Street - cyclists can pass to the right of the gate, but it's not that well organised.

Planters seemingly installed to impede cycling, provide dark corners for muggers....

Cut-through parallel to the A200

With a few drop kerbs etc, this could be a useful alternative to the parallel A200.

West end of what should be a useful cycle route parallel to the A200 (though the Thames-side route is not far away).

There's no reason to ban careful cyclists from this underpass.

Quayside in Docklands

What innocent thought you could have a Mandatory Cycle Lane outside a minicab office?!? Usually four cars parked in the MCL, zero enforcement.

Cycle contraflow on Southwark Bridge Road - Elephant and Castle cycle bypass (near South Bank University).

Rockingham Street cycle crossing, Elephant and Castle cycle bypass (close to South Bank University).

Munton Road, Elephant and Castle cycle bypass?? - a contraflow track just ends without even a drop-kerb, with a choice of two no-entry roads!

Impressive signage on the Elephant and Castle cycle bypass - Heygate Street.

Elephant and Castle cycle bypass - Steedman Street contraflow.

Elephant and Castle cycle bypass - Churchyard Lane to Hampton Street

Elephant and Castle cycle bypass - Churchyard Row

Not much parking at the Imperial War Museum - two mini-Sheffield stands on each side, and a couple by the road outside.

These racks are not far from the LCC offices. Note how limply that bike clings to the 'rack'.

Contraflow on London's South Bank (the entry was totally flooded the previous night)

Road behind the photographer = King Edward Walk (Borough: Lambeth) Crossing Westminster Bridge Road (Road administered by: TfL) Looking towards Morley Street (Borough: Southwark)
